Tractor Recovery

On the Saturday of Glastonbury Carnival we started the day by recoviering the Decortaed Tractor from the old Half-Way Inn, we would like to say a big thank-you to the new owners for looking after the tractor all week.

Frost RecoveryAnother big thank-you must go to Martin from Frost Recovery who came out to recover the tractor with his new HGV recovery truck. This saved a a lot of time and was by far the safest method of recovery.

Dave and his JCBSadly due the the soft ground surrounding the shed entrance, Martin was unabe to reverse the lorry and tractor into the shed, so we had to call in another favour and ask Dave Branfield to bring round his JCB and put the tractor away.

Earlier in October we suffered a failure of the injector pump which led to the engine racing away, if it hadn't been for the quick thinking of Ken Boobyier we may have lost the tractor much earlier. We'd like to say a big thank-you to our friends ats at Hickleys in Bridgwater for reconditioning the pump at such a good rate.

We are very fortunate in Westonzoyland CC to have so many good friends and we would like to thank all those who have helped us with the tractor this year.

Wells 2011

Wells carnival had a new route this year which by-passed many of the more technical corners. The start was delayed by 15min due to a fire on the route (apparently). Not long before we set off, the rain started and it continued all the way round. Many in the crowd soaked but they stayed to wath the procession.

As we turned the last corner at the finish the rain stopped! There was a lot of confussion about where we should park to get the cast off but they were soon off and we were on our way to Glastonbury.

We had another good position in the Glastonbury line-up, near to the rugby club and another important burger van!

Glastonbury 2011

The crowds at Glastonbury were huge this year; I don't think I've ever seen so many people there! The night was dry and warm and with the cancellation of North Petherton I guess many who would have gone there came to Glastonbury instead. The procession went well with another good response from the crowd.

From Glastonbury we took the cart across to Weston, the start of the journey was quite slow as we were stuck behind another club’s decorated tractor, we managed to get the cart past but the genie was stuck. When we got to the Piper’s Inn the cart went off up the A39 and the genie went down the A361 to try and by-pass the slow decorated tractor. The journey went very well and we arrived in Weston at about 1AM with the genie arriving about 15 min later. Sadly en-route we lost a section of roof that came down after being weakened by the rain over the past few days and when the gennie arrived we noticed the 3-phase tails had been trailing on the ground  (school-boy error).

Burnham 2011

E-mail Print PDF

The guys spent a long time today removing some of the components from the decorated tractor and fitting them to the front of the cart, as we realised that without the decorated tractor we have no sign to say who we were or what the cart is called.

Line-upApart from a hold-up when a dancer on one of the other carts hit a traffic sign, Burnham went very smoothly with good weather and a great turn-out.

Another down-side to not having the tractor was that there were 4 less dance platforms so some members missed their opportunity to go on cart.

Once finished at Brunham we had the long journey through to Sheptop Mallet. Without the decorated tractor we were able to move a little fasterbut it still took a long time. We had a good spot in Shepton, not too far from the fron and more importantly very close to a burger van.

The guys had been busy again today and we now had some new strobes behind the sign at the front and and the laser was finally working.
