Buy a Brick Campaign

With the current shed now 27 years old it’s condition has gradually become worse in recent years and the regular maintenance has been unable to keep the shed in a good enough condition. The dutch barn roof has rusted through and ‘leaks like a sieve’, the large doors are rusting out, electrics are outdated and the one side of the shed that has never been concreted floods in heavy rain. We have also been running out of room for the last ten years as the carts being built have become larger and more complex.

Earlier this year we took the major decision that with the club in a good position financially and with a strong membership it was time to tackle a project like replacing the old carnival shed and to build a larger modern facility.

In order to realistically fund a project such as this we also decided to sacrifice the standard of cart to be built in 2013, a minimal amount of funds will be spent on updating last year’s entry and the remaining annual income will be put aside

We would really appreciate it if you could join us in this ‘ONE OFF’ venture and purchase an engraved brick with a personal inscription of your choice. All bricks sold will be put together to make a large thank you wall which will stand within the new shed for decades to come. The special wall will be unveiled when the new shed is officially opened in the summer of 2014.

 Buy a Brick
We are all hoping that this special campaign will be one of the major fundraisers required to help complete the largest project the club have undertaken since the original shed was erected 27 years ago. Funds for the shed are being put aside regularly whilst keeping the normal club account manageable. Alongside extra fundraisers during the summer months this campaign was launched in early July.

We have approached Life Members, Vice Members, local companies, local organisations, friends of the club and members old and new.

If you would like to support us and forever own a part of Westonzoyland Carnival Club history then please fill in the order form and send a minimum donation of £35.00 to:

Tim Martin.

All change at the top

E-mail Print PDF

Chris (Budgie) BurgeAfter more than 20 years at the helm, Chris (Budgie) Burge stood down as chairman of Westonzoyland Carnival Club at last nights AGM (6/1/12). Chris has steered the club through many up's and down's and has decided that this year (his 40th in carnival) is going to be a less stressful one. All members past and present would like to say a big thank-you to Chris for all he has done over the years.

Tim MartinThe man who stepped up to fill Budgie's shoes is Tim Martin. Tim has been a member of Westonzoyland Carnival Club for since 1995 and served as Cart Captain for many of those. He is our lead engineer and has a real passion for carnival. We all wish Tim the best in his new position.

Another big change at the AGM was the resignation of Sophie Lang as Secretary, Sophie has served the club for many years in this demanding role and we wish her all the best in the furture.

In other news; Lisa Heard was re-elected as Treasurer and Gary Spraggs as Cart captain.

Putting the cart to bed

It's been a really good year and the final job is to remove the generator and put the cart back in the shed.

 Removing Generateor

A really BIG thank-you to everyone who has supported the club this year, we really appreciate it.

Thanks also to the officers for their tireless year-round work: Chairman-Budgie, Seretary-Sophie and Treasurer-Lisa. Thanks too to Martin for this year's design, to Gary (in his first year as Cart Captain) for pushing the build and to Matt for getting us to each carnival and home.

But the biggest thank-you goes to the club members for all their efforts.

We were almost accident free this year, until the very last minute when Gary dropped a scafold pole onto a fire extinguisher...
