Father Christmas on his sleighA big thank-you to Father Christmas who helped Westonzoyland CC raise over £2500 to be shared between the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and carnival club funds.  Santa rode his sleigh through Westonzoyland and surrounding villages escorted by club members who collected the contributions.

It was an excellent opportunity for Santa to check-up on who was being good before he delivered his presents on Christmas Day. Despite the cold weather (not a problem for Santa) and difficult financial times, the club were grateful for the support they received. This year the club made Santa a new sleigh to use while he was in the area, so a big thank-you to Steve Hamlett and Matt Heard for the MANY hours they spent building it!   An amazing number of cups of tea and chocolates were also consumed.

Father Christmas at the Westonzoyland Community CenterThe excitement sent a shiver down your spine as the announcement went out that Father Christmas was on his way and around 30 children (plus a few adults) ran outside to see him arrive.  Unfortunately the announcement went out a little early and there was a tense wait before the music from the sleigh could be heard and finally the sleigh was seen at the end of Cheer Lane, escorted by club members.  Father Christmas had dropped in to support the Westonzoyland Christmas Fair organized by the carnival club.  There were up to 20 stalls selling all kinds of last-minute Christmas presents from bags made of re-cycled clothes, locally made jewellery and kits to make your own candles from beeswax.  There were also the obligatory mince pies and cups of tea.  Thank-you to all club members who helped organise this event.
